Solution treatment applies to austenitic stainless steels. The process is carried out by heating to high temperatures (1050-1200°C) followed by rapid cooling.
This heat treatment brings into solution the chromium carbides but the rapid cooling does not allow them to precipitate. This forces chromium carbides to stay in a solution so enhancing corrosion resistance.
